The University of Utah team will focus on the synthesis of nanoscaled solid-phase hydrogen storage materials through chemical vapor-phase reactions (CVS). The CVS process is a novel technique developed at the University of Utah for synthesis of metal, ceramic, and intermetallic powders. The process is expected to offer advantages in terms of homogeneity at the atomic level and flexibility for custom engineering of chemical formulas.

The University of Utah team will adapt this technology for the synthesis of nanoscaled hydrogen storage materials. One of the focuses of the project will be on doping of materials known to have hydrogen storage properties to enhance the kinetics of hydrogen uptake/release reactions.
